On the "Island of Venice", there is a charming business district with a variety of interesting shops and restaurants.  The island was originally connected to the mainland, but was separated by the dredging of the Intracoastal Waterway (ICW) in 1967.

Venice has a large variety of housing including Gulf front condominiums, gated golf course communities, and single family homes. 

South Venice is a separate community adjacent to Venice's southern city boundary.  As part of the arrangements made when the Intracoastal Waterway was dredged, South Venice residents have access to a low cost private ferry service to take them to and from the beach.
