Venice

The city of Venice is located in Sarasota County, adjacent to the Gulf of Mexico. The city was first incorporated in 1927. There are several miles of beautiful public beaches available to residents and visitors. In addition to a variety of shells, Venice beachcombers often go home with a beautiful collection of "shark's teeth".

On the "Island of Venice", there is a charming business district with a variety of interesting shops and restaurants. The island was originally connected to the mainland, but was separated by the dredging of the Intracoastal Waterway in 1967.

Venice has a large variety of housing including Gulf front condominiums, gated golf course communities, and single family homes.

South Venice is a separate community adjacent to Venice's southern city boundary. As part of the arrangements made when the ICW was dredged, South Venice residents have access to a low cost private ferry service to take them to and from the beach.
