Punta Gorda is located at the intersection of Charlotte
Harbor and the Peace River. Its name is Spanish for
"fat point". Punta Gorda became a city in
1857 and remains today the only incorporated city in
Charlotte County. In recent years, Punta Gorda and Charlotte
County have received recognition from a number of
prestigious sources (including Money, Forbes,
MSN, and Men's Journal) as one of the best places to
live in America!
Punta Gorda's Historic District has wonderful
parks, restaurants, galleries, and shops. Charming
older homes in this neighborhood have become popular
investments for buyers interested in historic renovations.
Punta Gorda Isles (PGI) and Burnt Store Isles
are waterfront and golfing communities incorporating a large
number of canals with direct access to Charlotte Harbor.
A unique aspect of these communities is that the City of
Punta Gorda maintains the sea walls through a small fee
included as part of annual property tax collections.
Many of the canals can accommodate sailboats. Homes,
condominiums, and lots are available in both communities.
There are many active sailing, boating, arts, cultural and
community associations in the Punta Gorda area.
Fisherman's Village (located between Punta Gorda Isles and
the historic district) offers interesting shops and
restaurants. For waterfront living, Punta Gorda and our
other waterfront communities in Charlotte County are among
the finest and most affordable in Florida. Please
