North Port

North Port is an incorporated city located in the southern portion of Sarasota County. The developed areas of North Port are located just to the north of Port Charlotte. The community was originally owned by developer General Development Corporation and was incorporated in 1959.

Due to land acquisitions in recent years, the city has grown to include 103 square miles, making it one of the largest cities in geographic size in Florida. Thirteen square miles of the Thomas Ranch area, located to the west of the original city limits, are part of a planned new development that may include more than 1000 homes.

The community is attracting families as well as retirees. Because it has easy access to I-75, it is sometimes considered a bedroom community for Sarasota and Ft. Myers. Home prices in many neighborhoods are considered "affordable". As you drive through the community, you will see an array of model homes with prices starting below $150,000.

There are also several golf course communities including, Heron Creek, Sabal Trace and Bobcat Trail. These neighborhoods have single family homes, condominiums, and maintenance free villas.
